SSAB and Saint-Gobain’s unique joint project in Raahe to utilize ladle slag moves forward

Saint-Gobain’s new slag processing plant in Raahe, Finland is now under construction and will complete next year. SSAB in turn is transforming its own slag handling process and is investing in the related solutions for this, including cooling and logistics. This joint project between the two companies will turn the slag created as a by-product in steelmaking into low-carbon binders to replace traditional cements.

Ruukki Construction completes major investment in Finland: more sustainable roofs more efficiently

Ruukki Construction, part of SSAB, is today celebrating the opening of the new roof profile production line in Vimpeli, Finland. The production line for Ruukki Classic®, Ruukki Classic® LowCarbon and Ruukki® Trendic profiles is the largest single machine investment in the project announced in December 2021. The improvements will result in new, better and more sustainable roofing products more efficiently for Ruukki's installation partners as well as for house builders and renovators. In Scandinavia, the residential roofing range is marketed under the Plannja brand.

Our hope is that countries increase their national ambitions to limit climate change and to create enabling conditions for investments and a competitive transformation. SSAB will describe our journey to near zero-emission steelmaking as a way of exemplifying what breakthrough technologies are available to decarbonize the steel industry.
