Dionbilt’s lightweight trailers drive high performance with Strenx® redesign

Case details
Dionbilt Trailers in Washington, US, developed a winning formula for making lightweight trailers with the Strenx® 100 grade high-strength structural steel. Moving up from T-1 steel made the trailers easier to produce, lighter and more attractive.
Strenx® 100 has a minimum yield strength of 100 ksi (689 MPa) and meets the requirements of ASTM A514 Grade S. Strenx® 100 allowed Dionbilt to develop its trailer design even further, using its own CAD resources to optimize performance. The company was able to reduce the thickness of the trailer beams and other trailer parts by 10-15%. This translates to a weight reduction of about 200 kg (400 lb), from 3,600 kg (7,900 lb) to 3,400 kg (7,500 lb). Dionbilt produces 100 of its 3,400 kg (7,500 lb) 4-axle trailers per year.
